In today’s music industry it is very hard to find rappers that have really lived what they talk about in their lyrics.  Every rapper nowadays raps about what they’ve seen in movies or heard in the lyrics of other rap songs. In a record industry filled with “manufactured” thugs and “wannabe” gangsters its easy for frauds to go undetected and pass as real niggaz. But the streets have a saying that says “Real Recognizes Real.” and with Lil’ Buc what you hear is really what you get.
Born the youngest of 6 children and raised on the north side of Charleston, SC, Lil’ Buc came into to this world with the cards of life stacked against him. His mother struggled to make ends meet by working at numerous fast food restaurants by day and helping run a local numbers house by night. Lil’ Buc’s father was absent from his life serving a life sentence for murder. Raised mostly by his brothers, who were deep into the street life, Buc eventually picked up their bad habits and began living a life of crime. At the tender age of 15 Lil’ Buc was sentenced to serve a 2 yr. sentence in a Juvenile Correctional Institute for selling crack cocaine. While serving his jail time he managed to get his High School Diploma and come home early because of good behavior. Released in ’99 Lil’ Buc was well on his way to changing his life for the better.
Prior to serving his jail time, his older brothers started a local rap group. Doing performances throughout the Carolina’s they managed to build a strong following. Once released from jail, Lil’ Buc also started rapping and began traveling throughout the Carolina’s with his older brothers. In 1997 the brothers released and album entitled “Two Tone Anger” that sold over 5,000 copies locally. They started their own rap record label called “Top Dollar Records”, and slowly began to look for deals with major record labels.  When it seemed like thing were going well, Lil’ Buc’s oldest brother was arrested on 2 counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Shortly after that, his other brother was arrested for numerous drug charges and sentenced to 15 years in prison. These tragic events left Lil’ Buc on the streets by himself to hold down the independent record label that his older brothers started. These events led the police to believe that Lil’ Buc was also threat to society and began trying to pin numerous drug and robbery charges on him. In 2002 Lil’ Buc was arrested and charged with murder and numerous drug charges. But after being denied bond and held for year in county jail the City of North Charleston dropped all charges against Lil’ Buc due to lack of evidence and set free.
Realizing that music was his only way of staying out of trouble Lil’ Buc hopped back into the studio.  Motivated by the many unfortunate events that took place in his life, Lil’ Buc decided that he had to completely abandon his old way of doing things and change not only his environment, but his way of thinking.  In late 2003 Lil’ Buc released his first solo single entitled “North, North.”  The single immediately caught on in the streets and became a hit throughout the Carolina’s. Fueled by the powerful single “North, North” Lil’ Buc’s album, entitled Ghetto Legend, went on to sell over 4500 units throughout the Carolina’s and Georgia. Not wasting a minute of his time, Lil’ Buc hopped back in the studio and began working on his second solo album. With his buzz still heavy in the streets from the success of the “Ghetto Legend” album, Lil’ Buc dropped the single “Yall Don’t Want None” to set up the release of his 2nd solo album “Uptown Slinger.” The streets gave an even better response to “Yall Don’t Want None” than they did for “North, North”, and when “Uptown Slinger” hit the streets it immediately shot to #1 in stores across the Carolina’s and Georgia. Selling over 2,500 units and counting “Uptown Slinger” is the #1 local selling album in the history of the Carolina music scene. Lil’ Buc is currently wrapping up production on a feature length movie loosely based on his life entitled “Legends” and is slated to release the soundtrack in late 2005. Lil’ Buc is also touring and hard at work on a double album due out in early 2006. Despite suffering major setbacks and mishaps in his life Lil’ Buc has beat the odds and managed to successfully turn his life around.
